Dutch government to investigate China's "police stations" in Netherlands
(MENAFN) The Dutch foreign Ministry is looking into accusations that China has established two unlawful Police stations in the Netherlands to persecute dissidents.
The revelation by the ministry came on Wednesday, after Dutch media reported that the Chinese offices in Amsterdam and Rotterdam claimed to give diplomatic support but had not been registered to the Dutch government.
According to a Chinese dissident residing in the Netherlands mentioned by RTL and the investigative website Follow the Money, the "police stations" were used to quiet Political opponents.
The accusations were "absolutely incorrect," according to China's foreign ministry, and the "service centers" were intended to assist abroad nationals with tasks such as renewing driving licenses.
The Netherlands stated it was taking the claims “seriously”.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now investigating the activities of the so-called police centers. When we have more clarity about this, appropriate action will be taken,” Dutch foreign ministry representative, Maxime Hovenkamp, informed the outlet.
